Traveling Roots
The name Mikondo (baobab tree) is no casual choice. For the people of São Tomé, the Mikondo is the tree that "feels, listens, and welcomes"—a sacred altar that guards memories and smiles. ​Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the band’s mission is to be that "embrace" for the diaspora, revitalizing traditional rhythms with a contemporary and sophisticated flair.
Banda Mikondo is the definition of modern global mobility. Comprising six world-class musicians, the group maintains its cohesion despite physical distance, with members residing in:
